The desire to be influential
Anita and her family had been struggling for many years to put a roof over their heads.
Finally, after 10 years they were able to afford a plot of land and another struggle begins.
They started to struggle to build a house from scratch, Mr.Johnson who is Anita's father will work overtime to ensure he earns more, and Mrs. Johnson his wife was a supportive wife, she too took a loan from a cooperative firm to support her husband.
They built the house gradually, year by year and finally, after so many years of hard work, they now have a house to call their own.
"Daddy so we now have a roof over our heads, our hard work finally paid off", Anita happily told her dad, few weeks later they relocated to their house after squatting with friends for years.
They started to live a comfortable life for a few years.
One morning, Anita saw the government officials on her street saying the houses on that street and a few streets away are marked for demolition, the notice was less than a day, and before you know it the next day, bulldozers were sighted in the community with officials. They even had weapons like guns to shoot aside anyone who stood in their way.
It was like a movie, Anita quickly put a call across to her daddy who was at work, " Daddy, you need to come home, there's an emergency", Mrs. Johnson who was at her store quickly rushed home, and they were all waiting for the head of the house(Mr. Johnson).
Soon enough Mr. Johnson arrived perplexed, he had all the documents at his house and somehow felt his house will be exempted.
The truth was, The Johnsons lived in a lawless country where power are being used to oppress the masses and the poor. If he didn't know someone at the top his house will go down in his very eyes, and all he had worked for years will go down in minutes. He had faith that a miracle would happen until the bulldozer started demolishing houses a few streets away.
Anita noticed that some houses were spared because they had connections to people at the top while the common men's houses were demolished in their very eyes.
At that moment Anita started wishing she knew someone influential, she couldn't stand the thought of losing the only thing they call home just like that.
Finally, the bulldozer arrived on their street, The Johnsons and other families pleaded that they show them mercy and that even if it demands they pay for their houses to be spared, they were willing to pay installmentally, they saw how homeless people suddenly became, how stranded and hopeless people suddenly became and at that moment Anita desired to be an influential person, she was determined to be influential no matter the cost, to avenge for her family and others who have been rendered homeless, stranded and hopeless.
A few houses ahead before it got to her house, the news went viral that the people demolishing houses were bandits, yes they were from the government but they overstepped their boundaries.
People got agitated and it became a warzone, some were injured and the others ran for their lives, that was how fortunate the Johnson family was, their house was few houses that survived the demolition in the area.
A few years later, Anita studied political science at the best universities, and her yearning to be influential became a reality. She promised to use her power to avenge the poor and average masses in the community, but we all know power intoxicates, will she use her power for good? Will she quickly forget how depressing it felt to be oppressed?
Thank you for stopping by, till we meet again, this is Amie Geoffrey.
