Tamara was surfing the internet when Facebook suggested a person she might know,  Add Daniels Joe as friends,  she clicked on his profile to see his profile info and as she scrolled through his profile, his profile picture caught her attention, there was seated a cute handsome man in an exoctic living room and at that moment she didn't hesitate to send him a friend request. "Woooshhh, why so fine?" She whispered beneath her breath as she stare in admiration. "It's not like I know him, but this dude is so fine," she smiled mischievously waiting for him to accept her friend request. It was taking forever for Daniels Joe to accept her friend request, so she logged off Facebook and headed to the kitchen to fix herself a quick meal as it was getting a bit dark. She brought out her frying pan from the cupboard, some raw eggs from the crate in the fridge, fresh tomatoes, pepper and some onions as she reached for her knife. "I think some fried eggs would just b...

This night will usher in a new season, "Autumn is just by the corner," I mumbled as the last night of summer brought made me nostalgic and emotional. The night sky was still aglow with sun lingering to leave, I noticed the change in the air, and how the night was a bit chilly, I could perceive the scent of dry leaves, riped fruits and how the sounds of the chirping cricket filled the air. I sat quietly in my balcony reminiscing about the whole fun and adventures I embarked on during the early days of summer. More to that, the wealth of knowledge I had acquired from older family members. The one I loved the most was the one I spent with Grandpa Donald, such a wise, strong and vibrant man who taught me the value of time and what good friends stand for. "They stick by you in good times or bad times, Zainab who is your friend?" The voice from within echoed. I remember vividly how we took a stroll to Tamara resort that fateful day, the sun was out in all its glory painti...

It was a very beautiful Tuesday evening, the sea had already turned aqua blue, and the waves of the ocean roared, suddenly, I heard my name. "Sheila.." A soothing voice called out to me while I was taking a walk on the beach, and when I turned around, there was a 6ft tall dark cute macho with well groomed beard right behind me, he wore a denim jeans and white Tee shirt, "Goddamn," I mumbled, he looked so cute and simple. "Hey.. How did you know my name?" I startled a bit wearing a mischievous smile, as I walked closer, I focused my gaze on his hazel eyes "Excuse me Mr...have we met before?" "No, not really, I heard someone calling your name a minute ago, I wanted to tell you that your money had fallen off your pocket, here it is," He looked away almost immediately, handing me my $5 note which had fallen off my pocket. "Oh, thanks a bunch, what a good Samaritan you are, you already know my name, so, may I ask.. what your name is?...

Kuda's Wish.

Image
"Kuda now make your wish," Dad's soft voice resounded as he stared into my eyes, "go ahead, darling." Dad's conviction to make a wish upon the star gave me so much hope and I believed if I could make a wish it would all come true. I am Kuda and I am the only daughter of my parent, at age 9, I've always prayed to have siblings so badly and I had a preference which was a set of twins and they should be all girls. "Why girls?" Dad had always wanted boys and so he questioned me when I told him I wanted girls. "I love their outfit, and how they style their hair and of course I am a girl so I want sisters whom I can give out my stuff when I outgrow them," I replied swiftly convincing Dad why it should be girls. "Hmmm, fair enough, but I want boys," he concluded. "Why Dad?" I was curious to know why too so I inquired of him. "Just like you, I am a man and I want a gender I can play football with and give out my stuff...

Her Whispered Secret.

"I can't wait to visit Texas," Tonye repeated this statement twice in her sleep when I realised my friend was talking in her sleep. "Texas?" I sat up for a moment thinking about why she didn't tell me about her trip to Texas, or is this just a mere wish? I have heard stories of two friends who parted ways after one of them left the country without hinting at the other, "Wait a minute, does she think I might have bad intentions for her? Why didn't she tell me about this trip? Oh, so I do not mean a lot to her like I thought I did?" I kept overthinking which made it so hard for me to fall back asleep,  tick..tock..  my eyes stumbled upon the clock, it was exactly 3 am, "okay then, I need to keep my success to myself as well since Tonye didn't want me to be a part of her success story." I muttered in conclusion as I faced the wall trying to sleep. Tonye has been my best friend right from when we were in 100Level in college when we bo...

Please Come Home.

"Hey baby, Chin up, everything will be alright," Jade my little sister reassured me as she sat next to me trying to cheer me up. It's been two days since Dave my only son left the house angrily, "I'll be back shortly," that was his last words as he left the room. "Where could he be? Why can't he just call me and why did he have to switch off his phone?" My eyes were teary as I held onto Jade, the only one I've got in the world asking questions that no one had an answer to. I grew up with no papa and no mama, rumor had it that my parents were separated a few weeks after Jade was born. Mama died when I was just four years old and Jade was just two years old. Life wasn't a bed of roses for both of us as we grew up to care for ourselves, when I was 20 years old I met Tarry, the man who became my home and we got married after three years of courting. "Why can't I just be happy Jade? All my life when it begins to become sweet, it goe...

Dear Sister.

If there's anything I learned from my big sister, it's how positive she is towards life. Right from my childhood, I watched her approach life like a conqueror, despite times of adversity, and that helped me to be very optimistic. One morning, while we were preparing for school, I noticed how she began to whisper to herself and so I paid very close attention. "I am enough; I believe in myself, and I can do it," she smiled and then turned to me. "I am proud of you too, kid sister, and I can't wait to see how great you'll become. Always shoot for the stars and never settle for less." My eyes beamed so brightly, and I wore a very beautiful smile, and then we both headed for school. That day seemed to be the most energetic day of my life, and I just wore a smile throughout the day. Suddenly, my smile was short-lived when our mathematics teacher walked into the class for an impromptu test. As soon as Mr Henry announced the impromptu test, my countenance ch...

The Forbidden Adventure.

"Keep out," a big signboard was implanted right beside the oldest tree in Lufasi Park where I went on tour with Tamuno my best friend. "Why that?" I asked as I tilted my head forward on tippy toes to see what was in there while pointing to the signboard, "I wanna explore everywhere in here Tamuno, before I could finish my statement Tamuno was already in disbelief that I would dare ignore a danger sign, " Curiosity kills the cat you know," she reminded me as she paused for a moment. I walked a few metres away when I saw something curly and creepy, "Jez!! I think some wildlife is right in there, something like a wild snake.." With eyes wide opened I said pointing toward the direction of the signboard, "Tina, you better get a hold of yourself and let's not overstep boundaries, the aim here is to have some fun and not to endanger our lives," Tamuno said while she walked closer to where I was trying to pull me backwards. Tamuno has ...

My Hero.

Ever tried to impress your crush in high school before? Reminiscing on a particular day in high school got me smiling sheepishly. One Tuesday morning, Mr. Henry, a corper (student teacher), walked into the class accompanied by our vice principal. "Class stand and greet," the class captain ordered everyone in the class as we stood up to greet. "Good morning, sirs," the class chorused, and then, with a smile, our vice principal introduced the new fine, young-looking teacher as our new biology teacher. "This is Mr Henry, the new biology teacher, a student teacher actually; make sure you respect him as you would do to the rest of your teachers." "Yes sir," We all chorused and took our seats. In less than five minutes, Mr. Gideon, the vice principal, left the class, leaving us with the new teacher. He began to ask each of us our names to get acquainted with us before he officially commenced class. Before he got to a quarter of the class, he was alread...
