Kuda's Wish.

"Kuda now make your wish," Dad's soft voice resounded as he stared into my eyes, "go ahead, darling."

Dad's conviction to make a wish upon the star gave me so much hope and I believed if I could make a wish it would all come true.

I am Kuda and I am the only daughter of my parent, at age 9, I've always prayed to have siblings so badly and I had a preference which was a set of twins and they should be all girls.

"Why girls?" Dad had always wanted boys and so he questioned me when I told him I wanted girls.

"I love their outfit, and how they style their hair and of course I am a girl so I want sisters whom I can give out my stuff when I outgrow them," I replied swiftly convincing Dad why it should be girls.

"Hmmm, fair enough, but I want boys," he concluded.

"Why Dad?" I was curious to know why too so I inquired of him.

"Just like you, I am a man and I want a gender I can play football with and give out my stuff, " he replied softly with a chuckle.

"Let's see who wins," I let out a mutter, "Mom what gender do you want?" I politely asked Mom who was quite busy with her chores that day.

"Darling, I don't care about the gender, I just want more children, more friends and companions okay?" Her reply was quite beautiful to listen to and I just smiled beneath my breath.

From Mom's response, it was very clear she didn't mind the gender, she just wanted another child, dad wanted boys and I wanted girls, but the truth is we just wanted an addition to the family.

February 16th was my ninth birthday and I told Dad I didnt want something big, I just wanted my wish to come true.

I was beautifully adorned in a pink Barbie dress and held my cake which about nine candles were lit on as my hand walked right beside me to the balcony.

We came outside the gate and I watched him stare at the sky, the stars were shining and the next thing I heard from him was, "Kuda now make your wish," Dad's soft voice resounded as he stared into my eyes, "Go ahead, darling."

I gently dropped my cake and my hands clasped together, my eyes were quite teary and all I knew was I raised my eyes toward the sky and made my wish, "I want two sisters for my next birthday, I hope my wish comes true," and when I was done I ran back to dad, "I've made my wish dad," with a hopeful eye I replied.

"Great, I hope your wishes are granted my darling, can you now blow out the candles on your cake too?" His soft voice resounded yet again.

"Yes Dad," and as soon I was about to blow out the candle, I felt a gentle tap behind me, when I turned around, it was my mom beside me.

"May your wishes be granted my angel," her words brought me so much hope yet again that I still repeated the wishes before taking out the candles on my cake and then we all went inside the house, to eat and be merry just the three of us.

Three months later, on a very sunny afternoon, Mom came home with the news, "We are pregnant!" I could see how elated Dad was, he lifted me so high and mastered kisses on my head, chin and forehead and then he ran off to his wife to give her a warm embrace, that Saturday was the best day of our lives as everything was gradually falling into place.

Who would have thought that a mere wish upon the star could come true? I anticipated the gender of the child so badly, that I couldn't wait for the next nine months to carry my sisters and I just was convinced it was going to be a set of twins.

I had groomed my faith so badly that I didn't have an iota of doubt, every day I and dad watched how the tiny bump grew gracefully, we would speak to our unborn family members and I would sing lullabies to them every night until February 14th when mom went into labour.

It was very dreadful as her labour was quite severe, I and dad kept praying she made it out alive with our new family members.

At exactly 6 pm, February 15th Mom gave birth to a beautiful set of twins.

"It's a boy and a girl," the doctor broke the news happily, "the mother is alive and healthy too, congratulations!"

Dad hugged me and we waited patiently until we could see our babies and my mom.

"Mom won," I chuckled.

"I think we all won darling, it's a boy and a girl, one for you and one for me," he replied patting me.

"Yes Dad, at least she just wanted an addition to the family, not minding the gender and I now have a sister and a brother, Dad, your wishes also came true. Tomorrow is even my birthday, that's the best birthday gift you know," I replied.

"Your wishes came true darling, would you love to make another wish upon the star tomorrow?" Dad reminded me that sometimes a little wish upon the stars comes true.

"Yes please, a wish that we all live longer, in peace and grow in love!" I replied holding Dad's hand as we headed into the maternity ward to see our new babies and my mom happily.
