The eyes are the lamp of the body.
Kemi was at the library that fateful evening, trying to read her books for the upcoming examinations when she realized, the prints on her book seemed doubled all of a sudden. She couldn't see the prints anymore, her vision had gone blurry and she was too scared to scream.
She could see her future shattering through her mind's eyes and she thinks she was about to go blind.
She placed her hands on her lips trying to comport herself when the librarian noticed all wasn't well, "Kemi, are you fine?" Miss Ann the librarian asked.
Her fearful eyes say no, but then she nods her head in affirmative that all was well. She managed to pick up her book, and she stood up heading for the door, when Miss Ann walked up to her, "Kemi, you look anxious, is everything alright?"
"I...I.. don't see clearly anymore," she manages to spill as she burst into tears, holding Miss Ann by the hand, "ha! how come, have you been straining the eyes for some time now?" Miss Ann replied feeling so sad about everything.
Miss Ann held her by the hands and suggests she visits an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.
A few hours later
Kemi was seen in "The Hyssop eye clinic which is about 2hours drive away from the school's library, besides her was Dr. Mark the ophthalmologist who ran a quick eye test on her, " From the test Kemi, you're suffering from refractive error, have you ever worn a recommended glasses before?"
Kemi's mind flashed back to a man who claimed to be a doctor months ago, who ran a free eye test on her while she was about to head home from school one Friday evening, the doctor recommended an eyeglass for her, which he said was a protective glass to protect her from dust and sun rays.
"Yes! yes!" she exclaimed in response to Dr.Mark's question, She narrated it all to Dr. Mark, "Did he use all of this equipment here to run the eye test before recommending eyeglasses for you?" Dr. Mark asked, No! He just said, "can you see from afar, can you read this, that's all he did," Kemi replied. "Unfortunately, the bad glasses triggered the condition, but it's nothing to worry about," Dr.Mark assured her.
"I'll recommend the Pen-eye exercise, he stretches his hand towards her offering her a pen, I want you to hold this pen at arm's length and focus on it, it might seem double, however, I want you to bring it closer to your nose slowly trying to focus on it.
As soon as the object begins to split into two images, have no worries, just stop moving it and try to focus on making it back into one image again, if possible read whatever is written on the body of the pen for about 5 minutes, and then
repeat these steps until it is not possible to refocus the two images into one.
One, two, start!"
Kemi collected the pen from the doctor and did all he said, it took her about 15 minutes to round off the exercise.
Dr.Mark went ahead to recommend eyeglasses which in turn will correct her sight, and some eye drops and told her to continue with the eye exercise at home.
"Please, make sure you come back to the clinic in the next 5 days, we need to track your progress and make sure you do your eye exercise, it is very important, to avoid straining the eyes, and discard the eyeglasses the so-called doctor gave you, you don't joke with your eyes."
Kemi left the eye clinic feeling assured her eyesight would be corrected and yes she would be able to read her books once again for the examination, she couldn't imagine being blind at her tender age, she's got a bright future that demands good eyesight.
She ensured she followed the instruction Dr.Mark gave, "the eyes are the lamp of the body why would I even joke with it?" She said to herself.
A few days later, she revisited the clinic and was told her eyes sight had improved, she vowed never to take her good eyesight for granted again, she could read her books once again for the examinations, and make her dreams of becoming a chartered accountant come true.
Thank you for stopping by, till we meet again, this is Amie Geoffrey.
