Why does society place more value on BEAUTY?
Why do you think society places such a high value on beauty when it serves no functional purpose?
Have you ever wondered?
Beauty deals with the physical attribute that is pleasing to the eyes (aesthestic).
I think people place more value on beauty because of the attraction from and to beautiful things. Let's just say, Beauty is a selling point.
For instance, would you as a man be attracted to a woman with bulging eyes, a big fat nose, and teeth bulging out of the gum or would you as a woman be attracted to a man with these features? No insults intended.
Hold on, why do you feel enticed to read a post with a beautiful thumbnail or beautiful caption even if you're not sure if the whole article would make sense?
Beauty is a pull of attraction just like the way some insects are drawn to beautiful flowers to suck their nectar.
I can dare to say that beauty especially physical beauty is the currency of attraction.
Before a man walks up to a woman to woo her, he must be attracted to her, which implies that he found her to be "beautiful in his eyes".
Notwithstanding, beauty does not make up a good character, that is why beauty alone is vain.
Check out the billboards and commercials for beauty products, clothing lines, etc. They go for beauty (beautiful ladies as models because it will cause traffic of attraction to viewers) and also increase sales.
Also, check out most movies, they are acted by beautiful men and women, this is a strategy by movie producers to garner attention by selling off beauty. Even fans follow beautiful actresses and handsome actors because as I said, beauty pulls.
Let's move to the interior decorators, how do you think they can win intending customers, is it not by mixing beautiful colors and making their offices and homes look beautiful?
Furniture also deals with beauty as some would not mind the quality of the furniture so long as it looks beautiful on the outside.
The same goes for catering services, the cake might look really beautiful or it might not be tasty, but people will pay so much to buy the cake because the beauty attracts them.
Hairstylists and makeup artists try to outdo their previous creations and sell beauty to attract women to their shops for patronage.
Beauty creates the first impression" And you know what they say about first impressions? It last a long and it matters.
Why do people put in so much effort to look good on their first day of a job interview? #Firstimpressionmatters.
You get accessed first by your appearance even before they hear what you've got to offer, if you're not attractive enough, you might lose the opportunity of being heard and stay employed because beauty somehow is connected to intelligence and class.
Are you aware also that beauty is connected to self-confidence and self-esteem?

Beauty for society can take any form such as facials, voice, hair length texture, and skin tone (that's why most people especially in the society I live in bleach their skin from dark to fair) to be tagged "Beautiful", Physique (6-packs for the guys and the women even go ahead to do Liposuction for large breast and hip), even some guys do not go to the gym for health purpose, they just crave the six packs to fit the society's taste.
Why do they put in so much effort to be beautiful if it has no functional purpose?
Right here in my neighborhood, a particular fashion house (name withheld) rejected a lady because of her height, simply because she was short, they didn't reject her because she was underqualified but because they had set certain beauty criteria for height ( 5ft 7 inches). This might not be fair to a layman, but in that world, it is because of standards.
The list is endless, virtually every sector deals with selling beauty for money.
In summary, society places a high value on beauty because it pulls, it gives pleasure, Beauty is connected to intelligence, wealth, fame, and power and Beauty is a selling point.

As much as we work so hard to look beautiful on the outside, we need to work so hard to be beautiful on the inside too because: physical beauty fades, but a beautiful personality is priceless.
