Big girls don't cry.
Dera was a fierce and mean girl who never gave a hoot about the feelings of others, especially guys, she was raised in a dysfunctional family, in fact, a savage home at that, this had a negative impact on her, maybe she remained that way to stay defensive, because like every other person she wasn't without flaws.
In a room that looked like the girl's hostel, the whole room was quite messy that afternoon but Dera and Joanna were seated face to face on the couch, "Big girls don't cry", Dera casually said to her friend Joanna, who was extremely broken.
A few days ago, Joana had a clash with her boyfriend Tony who used to mean the whole world to her, it turns out that the clash might be the end of their love life journey as Tony hasn't been taking Joanna's calls ever since then.
Sniffing so hard, her eyes were as red as a scarlet "Don't you get it Dera, Tony is my world, he means a lot to me, I don't think I can survive this if the whole thing goes south",Joanna opened up to Dera.
" Honestly, I don't see myself wailing over a man, I mean who does that? get up girl, if he is yours he'll reach out to you, let go and have some fun girl" Dera said while she stood beside her friend trying to get her up from the bed.
A few weeks passed, and it was obvious Tony had ended the relationship with Joanna because she was too weak to get up from the bed as she kept crying day and night, she cried even harder whenever she listened to an emotional song, Dera was getting pissed over her friend's attitude as she wouldn't understand how a man made her bestie cry so hard.
"I don't even understand why you keep doing this to yourself, you'll find someone new Joanna, you're pretty, someone better will show up, and this will be the last time ill talk you out of this". Dera said to her friend almost angrily.
" I know I would, let me just grief for now, I'll be fine". Joanna managed to wear a fake smile.
A few months later, Joanna bounced back to normal, she has moved on and done well for herself.
Dera on the other hand had started to see someone new, it was not news that she never took guys seriously but this time, this was different, Dera was so into this new guy, she would talk with him all day and all night, how he managed to sweep Dera off her feet was still a misery to Joanna, "hehe, Love is powerful oh, my girl is already loving up". She soliloquized.
The whole love thing became intense between Dera and her newfound love, weeks passed to months and months turned to a year, but now her newfound love whose name was Tim started to change, maybe he wasn't feeling the same way anymore.
He was seen on campus with a new girl, and he kept avoiding Dera, Dera the fierce girl has heard rumors but never took them to heart until she saw them for herself.
She tried so hard to be a "hard girl", whenever Joanna enters the room, Dera seem to be doing well, she acted unbothered and hyperactive, just so Joanna doesn't notice all wasn't fine, she blinks as much as possible so that her precious tears wouldn't run down her cheeks, Joanna sensing some funny actions stood still fixing her gaze on Dera, "I am a strong and fierce girl", Dera said to herself, but sadly her emotions said otherwise, alas she gave way to tears.
Joanna burst into laughter, " See who is crying, it's about Tim right?, I should have sympathized with you but remember, big girls, don't cry, welcome to the club girl, the club of single sisterhood" raising a glass of wine, Joanna teased Dera.
Dera looked at Joanna from head to toe and hissed," I can't believe I allowed myself to be vulnerable, well, well, shit happens, I'll be fine too". Dera dried her eyes and toasted to the new title; Single sisterhood.
