Aquaphobia
That morning, I wore my favourite T-shirt on a pair of trousers as I anticipated the much fun I planned to have at the Casino resort and bar.
For a while, I have always admired swimmers so much that I wish I could. Deep down, there's so much passion and drive within me to learn how to swim, so I booked a session with Ucee, my coursemate who knows how to swim.
The day arrived for me to cast my fears aside as I headed out with Ucee to live in the moment, have fun, and learn while at it.
"Ucee, are you sure I can do this?" I asked in fear as soon as I set my eyes on the swimming pool; that was because I naturally had an aquaphobia. "Relax, baby girl, you'll enjoy it. Let's get a cold bath first," Ucee reassured me as we headed to the bathroom to have a cold shower. Subsequently, we headed to the changing room to wear our swimsuits. If there's anything I did more of, it was to take a lot of photos of the beautiful environment, myself, and Ucee.
"Hold my hands and let's get into the water." Ucee was such a calm instructor; she held my hands, and before I knew it, we were already in the pool.
"Breathe in. Breathe out. You'll hold your breath for 30 seconds while we get under the water, okay?" Her convincing face gave me the courage to want to try, and so I nodded in affirmative. "Okay," I responded without a second thought.
I closed my eyes, held my nose with the other hand, and made a gentle squat beneath the water, trying to hold my breath. As soon as I got into the water, it was very cold. I guess I held my breath for not less than ten seconds as I jumped right out because I was nervous about drowning or I feared I might pass out holding my breath for too long.
"Haa." I made my way out as I gasped for breath. I could hear Ucee laughing hard at me. "Amie, you're so scared. Life is all about taking risks. If you must learn this, you must be courageous to face your fears." Her words resounded in my ears, but all I could utter was, "At least I will live to fight another day."
I left the pool, sat on the sunlounger, and then focused my gaze on Ucee as she effortlessly swam using different swimming strokes. I watched in admiration and wore a very beautiful smile at every stroke she took, but I never dared to go right into the pool.
"Hopefully I'll learn this another day," I whispered as I took a sip from my orange juice and a bite from my cookies. I waited patiently for her to enjoy the moment for a couple of minutes while I took selfies and nodded my head to the background music before we finally changed and headed home.
